As head of the town council, I Councilor Ionnia Teppen, would like to invite all residents and visitors of Heldren to our annual summer festival.
Celebrated as both the anniversary of our beloved founder’s death and Lady Sarenrae’s holy day, this three day event will begin on the 18th of Sarenith and culminate on the 20th of Sarenith, the Solstice.
Day 1 (18th of Sarenith)
The festivities will begin with the Stoat Cup Treasure Hunt. The winner of course will receive the cup for one year where it will be filled for free by the ever-generous Menander and Kale of The Silver Stoat. The winner will also have the honour of retrieving the Everflame from Heldren’s crypt with three of his chosen guardians in the Briarwood.
Please be careful out there, we do not want any more scrapped knees or twisted ankles this year. And the council have re-evaluated the “traps” and “monster” that the Champion and and his guardians will face in Heldren’s Crypt to make it both challenging and safe. Thank you to the local ladies who have donated the many quilts and pillows for the traps.
We have also gained the services of our local Sentinel, Traiel and Elder Natharen Safander’s new clergyman, Morgan Dal as referees and overseers for the hunt. If you get stuck, blow on you whistle and they will come assist you.
Day 2 (19th of Sarenith)
Day of family, where we spend time with our love ones. At sunset, we will have the traditional offerings and blessings at the town statue. The blessings can be non-denominational for those who have their own faith other than Erastil or Sarenrae.
For those who cannot be with family, Menander and Kale will be opening The Silver Stoat to share the day with them.
Day 3 (20th of Sarenith)
The Summer Solstice – The Sunwrought Festival
Starting mid-morning, the festival will run into small hours of the night.
Stalls will be set up in the square for the baking competitions and local arts and crafts. The Silver Stoat will have outdoor tables and free food and drink will be available throughout the village.
There will be a grand feast at noonday where the Maiden of Sarenrae will be chosen. She will then choose her “beast of Rovagug” for the day.
We will also have the traditional King of the Bean. This year, the ladies have outdone themselves have planned a wagon wheel sized pie. The one who can find the small bean cooked within, will become King of Heldren for a day.
This years games and competitions will be:
Erastil’s Challenge (Archery Competition): Various distance and accuracy based competitions.
Calistria’s Aim (Knife and Axe Throwing): Various distance and accuracy based competitions.
Wood Chopping: Speed based competition
Rovagug’s Flight: A race through the town and into the Briarwood. The first to catch the scarf on the Rough Beast (Farmer Miller’s dog, Ace) will be the winner.
The Tree Game: Various goodies threaded through a tree – ranged weapons to win them
Dragon’s Gold (A Dragon hoards some treasures in the town center – are you quick enough to get some.
Troll Bridge: A “troll” guards a bridge (tables) and you must get across without being knocked into the river.
Tower of Castilo: Knock down The Stag Lord’s tower but don’t get hit by return fire.
I am sure that will be many drinking and arm-wrestling games as well throughout the day, but I ask that we do not have a repeat of last year’s unpleasantness.
So my friends, there is only a day left before our festival starts and hope to see everyone attend. Please come to the town hall if you would like volunteer for anything or have questions.
